Keeseville was named after the family of Richard Keese, congressman.

Keeseville spans Essex and Clinton counties. One of the largest organizations here, the North Country Camps Foundation, runs Camp Lincoln for boys and Camp Whippoorwill for girls. Owned by the Gucker family for nearly a century, the camps transitioned to a nonprofit status in 2018.
